Towers of London

There is not much to be said about London that has not already been said by many people better qualified to tell the story than me. However, bore you I will as we are moving off to the relative wilderness for a few weeks so this post could always be “the last post”, especially given that we will be cycling down narrow country lanes in far off Cornwall.

There were wall to wall people in London which meant that I tended to look up rather than at the waves of people charging towards me , usually with their eyes firmly fixed on their cellphone screen. Looking up meant  that I actually saw how diverse the modern London skyline was with the new mixed in with the old. The result is, well, interesting.

I have thrown a few of my “Towers of London” snaps below.

Ruth got to see the changing of the horse guards at the Horse Guards Parade, something we specially wanted to see last time but missed. In the process of getting there, we noticed that there were hordes of people heading for Buck House and, that the cremonial garb was out on the balcony, the Queen must be coming out to wave too, well the tourists.

We later learnt that it was the 75th anniversary of The Battle of Britain. We saw the fly over of the WW2 planes from the south bank of the Thames later in our wanderings.

Today we spent elbowing our way down Portobello road in Notting Hill and then watched the first set of the Wimbleton Woman’s final with a crowd in deck chairs in front of a big screen on Marleybone Road.

We have had enough of cities for a while and are looking forward to our coming three weeks in the countryside.
